Susan Shutrump is the President of Susan Shutrump Consulting, LLC and the recently retired Supervisor of Occupational and Physical Therapy Services for the Trumbull County ESC. She has more than 41 years’ experience in providing therapy services including coordinating the development of individualized transportation plans for students with special needs. She is the 2018 recipient of the Peter J Grandolfo Memorial Award of Excellence and the 2007 recipient of the NAPT Special Needs Award. She holds the Special Needs Transportation endorsement, was past chair of the Special Needs Committee and was a member of NAPT’s Special Needs Advisory Board from 2017-2019. She has recently been appointed to NAPT’s Special Needs and PDS Committees. Sue is tenured faculty and has served on the National Advisory Board for the Transporting Students with Disabilities Conference since 1994. She is a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. She served on the NHTSA curriculum writing committee for “CSRS on School Buses”, as well as all subsequent revision committees including being a National Subject Matter Expert on the 2023 revised curriculum. She served as Special Advisor to the STARTS (Students Transportation Aligned for Return to School) Task Force. She is and has been a longstanding member of the Special Needs Operations Writing and the Infants Toddlers and Preschoolers Operations Committees acting as co-chair of the latter for the 15th through 17th National Conferences. She is also a member of the Specially Equipped School Bus Specifications Committee. She has presented extensively across the country. She has authored articles in numerous publications as well as chapters, “Best Practices in Safe Transportation” in the first and second editions of American Occupational Therapy Association textbooks, Best Practices for Occupational Therapy in Schools.
